Trail Description

Located at 2,100 feet and next to the Loyalsock State Forest in northeast Pennsylvania, this trail in the small town of Eagles Mere has a rich history. In 1892 the Eagles Mere eight-mile narrow gauge railroad was built to Sonestown where it connected to the mainline Williamsport & North Branch. Through the 1920s, this scenic excursion service offered the wealthy an escape from large cities like Philadelphia. The trail only uses 2.1 miles of the original line which is blazed in blue and is best for a short walk. The Eagles Mere Railroad garnered praise as one of most scenic lines in the state with wildflowers and waterfalls. Unlike the days of the railroad which offered open vistas and fields due to extensive logging, today’s trail is surrounded by a mature canopy of trees.
