Trail Description

These trails offer hikers the beauty and sounds of the Little Buffalo Creek. They provide good opportunities for seeing wildlife and can be used for cross-country skiing during the winter. Included in the network of trails in Little Buffalo State Park are two small sections of rail-trail. Together they are called the Newport and Sherman’s Valley Railroad Trace. The rail-trail sections are signed with directional arrows rather than name signs. Highlights alongside the trace in the East Day Use Area include a covered bridge over Furnace Run, Shoaff's Grist Mill, and an original rail car, Way Car No. 12.
