Trail Description

These trails are located in Hills Creek State Park, 12 miles northeast of Wellsboro and eight miles northwest of Mansfield in Tioga County not far from Route 6. Sneak up on wildlife including eagles, osprey, loons (seasonal), beaver, Pileated Woodpeckers, and more as you pass though riparian areas near bodies of water. Tauscher’s Pond provides a vital stopover for migratory waterfowl and exists mostly due to a large beaver dam near where the trail passes. Take the Yellow Birch Trail for a closer look. From the end of the Tauscher’s Trail, locate the Lakeside Trail nearly across the park road at the edge of the campground. This trail skirts the edge of Hills Creek Lake around to the spillway you drove across when entering the park. Along the way be sure to watch for beaver chews on trees, perching eagles, basking turtles, and other abundant wildlife enjoying the lake and lakeside habitat. Points of Interest: Beautiful 140-acre Lake, abundant wildlife, remote views of lake and other park habitat including wetlands. Difficulty rating: Easy, little elevation change, wider trail with some seasonally wet areas. Pick up a park map for more hiking trail options. Restrooms and water fountains are available in park picnic areas and campgrounds. Showers are available for a small fee. Seasonal guided hikes offered by the park including Beaver Watches.
