Trail Description

Through his work as a volunteer of the Dunmore Historical Society, Karl Wegforth has helped create a loop trail surrounding one of Pennsylvania American Water's reservoirs. Another trail surrounds the Lake Scranton Reservoir along Route 307. Opened officially on November 9, 2010, the Dunmore Number 1 Reservoir Trail is open to residents and their dogs from dawn to dusk. Owners are required to clean up after their pets. Parking and access for the trail is located off of Dunda Drive near Five Star Equipment. A portion of the trail is dedicated to Jonathan K. Wentline and Joseph Guarnieri, friends of the Wegforth family who passed away in 2009.The path is lined with benches crafted from fallen or dead trees that were cleared away. Pennsylvania American Water provided manpower and fencing along the dam. Establishing this trail was a real collaborative effort, according to Mark Cross, production manager for Pennsylvania American Water. Many volunteers who helped build the trail knew it would be a great opportunity to share this natural resource with the public. - Excerpted from an article in GOlackawanna, November 15, 2010.
