Trail Description

Hawk Mountain Sanctuary recently opened an additional section of trail that is wheelchair accessible. There are now two wheelchair accessible routes near the Visitor Center, leading to two different overlooks over the picturesque Appalachian Mountains. An all-terrain wheelchair is also available, free of charge, at the Sanctuary’s Visitor’s Center. The sanctuary is comprised of a system of trails that range in difficulty from easy to difficult and strenuous. A trail map and guide is available at the Visitor’s Center, as well as at the following URL, http://www.hawkmountain.org/visit/hiking/trail-descriptions/page.aspx?id=239. Hawk Mountain serves a variety of purposes, as an unique trail destination with sweeping views at the many overlooks along the trails, as a scientific research center, an international conservation training location, a wildlife sanctuary, and of course as a raptor education, conservation and observation destination. There are various hotels, bed and breakfasts and campgrounds near the sanctuary to turn a hike into a weekend adventure, more information can be found at the following link, http://www.hawkmountain.org/visit/overnight-visits/overnight-visits/page.aspx?id=257. Stop in at the Visitor’s Center upon arrival to pay a small fee that helps the Sanctuary continue all of these important education and conservation activities.
