D&L Trail
The D&L Trail is over 140-miles and runs from the hills just outside of Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne County to the canal town of Bristol, Bucks County. The trail follows old rail beds and canal towpaths on alternating sides of the Lehigh and Delaware Rivers. The D&L Trail intersects several regional greenways, as well as the Appalachian Trail at Lehigh Gap. A 26-mile section of the trail runs through Lehigh Gorge State Park, while the entire Bucks County section of the trail lies within Delaware Canal State Park. A variety of trail users take advantage of the trail, which is marked multi-use in most areas. Bicyclists, joggers, walkers, hikers, and fishermen can all be found on the primarily rolled-cinder trail. In the more rugged, unimproved sections, hikers predominate. A dedicated group of D&L Trail Tenders volunteer to maintain the trail, but we also enjoy municipal support for our construction and maintenance projects. Please visit the D&L’s website (www.delawareandlehigh.org) for section-specific details.
