Cumberland Valley Rail-Trail

11 Miles

Trail Description

Wildlife viewers of all ages and experiences can hike, bike, walk, or horseback ride on the 11-mile Cumberland Valley Rail Trail that follows the abandoned Cumberland Valley railroad corridor from Shippensburg to Newville. Enjoy interpretative way-point signs on the agricultural and Civil War heritage along the trail. Visitors can now also enjoy a newly-opened two-mile offshoot of the CVRT which runs from the underpass at Rt. 233 just south of Newville to Green Hill Rd. Parking for this new trail is at the Newville trailhead. In addition, the Cumberland Valley Rail Trail Council also recently completed the a one mile section of the trail beginning at Allen Road in Carlisle. This extension is designed to eventually be part of the 11-mile trail that would connect Carlisle to the trailhead in Newville. The Cumberland Valley Rail Trail is a designated National Recreation Trail.
