Trail Description

The Darlington Trail runs from the junction of the Appalachian and Tuscarora Trails at its western end to Tower Road at its eastern end. The entire route is located within State Game Lands 170, with the permission and cooperation of the Pennsylvania Game Commission. The trail is maintained for day-hiking by volunteer members of the Susquehanna Appalachian Trail Club in Harrisburg. Trail maintenance is occasional, so portions of the trail may be overgrown at times. The trail is marked with 2” by 6” vertical orange blazes with double blazes indicating a significant change in trail direction. The trail varies from a narrow footpath to wooded roads, with some rocky portions of trail. There is one intermittent stream crossing in Bryson Hollow. There is no bridge, but the stream can usually be easily crossed, except during high runoff events. There are no expansive year-round views, but there are abundant winter views of the valleys on either side of Blue Mountain. A noteworthy view of the Cumberland Valley can be seen along the Appalachian Trail, just 0.29 miles south of the western terminus of the Darlington Trail.
